Our Cozy Rustic Christmas Decor
We've finally got our Christmas decorations up! We waited a bit longer than usual this year since I've been swamped with Christmas orders (which is amazing!). I got a few new items this year that I am absolutely in love with. I will share them below!
This year I tried something a bit different and put a feather boa on our tree as a garland! I love how it turned out. It looks a little like faux fur which I always have a soft spot for. One of my favorite things in this room is my faux fur throw. It is sooo soft. You can find it HERE (I think it is actually on sale right now!)
I fell in love with these hanging stars as soon as I saw them. They are huge! The big one is 18" in diameter and the small is 14". And the best part? They are only a few dollars! That's right, the large one is one about $6 and the small is about $4. I couldn't believe it! Seriously go get some now. They are super light weight and you can find them HERE.
I always have a hard time finding a fall/winter themed candle that I like the scent of. I hate anything pumpkin or cinnamon or really any type of baked goods. This one is amazing though! It's a little bit sweet with a smokiness to it. So good! It's from Bath and Body Works.
I also like to fill up my lanterns with Christmas balls. These ones are the exact ones I used for this small lantern. They are from JYSK and are only about $4 for 27 ornaments! Perfect for filling up lanterns.
I love this snow globe so much! I got it a couple of years ago and it is one of my favorite Christmas decor items. It reminds me of the Harry Potter owl. It plays music when wound up and the snow is beautiful when you shake it. My kids love it too. You can find it HERE.
Super Easy (and safe!) Faux Marble Christmas ornaments
These ornaments are seriously so easy! ANYONE can do them...kids, adults...anyone!
All you need are:
- Some clear ornaments (I used plastic, but you can also use glass). I would recommend plastic if little ones are participating. I purchased mine from Dollar Tree, but you can also find them HERE.
- Some cheap acrylic paint. I find the dollar store brands work best as they are a bit runnier and are easy to swirl around the ball. The exact colors I used are: Spun Gold, Silver Morning, Turquoise, and White. All by DecoArt Crafter's Acrylic (found at Dollarama or HERE).
- Some mini cups (like Dixie cups). I also got mine from Dollar Tree, but they can be found HERE.
- Some ribbon to match the paint you chose (any ribbon will do!)
I also used some paper towel and some scrap paper to catch the drips.
For the full instructional video, scroll down.
Basically, you just pull off the tops of the clear Christmas balls, pour the paint inside and swirl around until you cover the inside. Then you place the ball top down in a Dixie Cup to drain all the excess paint (I allowed it to drain for 12 hours, but probably 1-2 is sufficient). Next flip them top up on the Dixie Cup and wipe the excess paint from around the rim. Allow it to dry overnight. The next day, just put the tops back on and tie on some ribbon. Just like that! You have designer looking Christmas balls!
*Keep in mind that the paint will shift and marbleize as it drains and dries, so your ornaments will look different throughout the process.

3 Super Easy (and non sketchy) Ways to Save on your Holiday Shopping! (Even if you're in Canada)
Christmas is soooo expensive...don't you agree? I've mastered shopping online...like, I've got it down to a science...lol. I'm an artist and I work from home, so I buy all my Holiday gifts in between coats of paint while in my studio and they show up at my door a few days later. It's amazing and saves so much time!
Over the past couple of years, I've found ways to save money online, that are super easy, quick and can pay off big time.
(this article may contain affiliate links that allow me to make a very small commission but I only recommend items/services I use and trust)
1. Ebates
I've been using Ebates for just over 2 years, and it is amazing. Like getting free money, it's safe, and it's super easy to use:
1. Sign up for an account
2. Use their links to go to the website of your choice
3. Complete your purchase using the same browser tab.
4. The rebate will automatically be deposited in your Ebates account.
To collect your payment, you can either have a cheque mailed directly to you or you can have it deposited to your Paypal account. Payouts are processed every 3 months. You don't have to give them any private info (except your email) so you can feel super safe.
I made about $80 last holiday season in rebates and that's on items I would have purchased anyway. Win-win. The rebates are usually 2%-5% but I have seen some go up to 20% (at Old Navy!) On the US site, you get a $10 bonus after you spend $25 on your first purchase!
I'm located in Canada, so I use Ebates.ca. If you are in the US, you would use Ebates.com
2. Honey
Honey is an app (for ios or android) and a Chrome browser extension that automatically finds the best coupon code for whatever website you are on. It's awesome! No more Googling 'Forever 21 coupon code' or searching your emails for coupon codes. This app does it for you!
When you check out from your favorite store, a small drop down menu will appear and you can click the coupon code you want to apply. Easy Peasy!
A bonus with this app is you can sync your Amazon 'Save for Later' list with the app and it will automatically let you know if the price drops on one of your items! Amazing, right? Sign up for Honey below:
3. Start Shopping Early
I usually start making my Christmas shopping list in September. That way, I know what I am buying (or making) for my family and friends. Then if I happen to see one of those items for a great price in the months leading up to the holidays, I can purchase it, put it away and mark it off my list.
I also almost never deviate from the list. It's so easy to see something that you know your loved one will love, and end up going overboard (especially when you start purchasing early). Plan your budget way ahead of time and don't go over.
I like to watch flyers and emails for sales on the particular items I'm looking for. Starting in September gives them lots of time to go on sale at some point before Christmas. And if you know your child is going to want one of this year's hottest toys (a la Hatchimals or Fingerlings) make sure you start 'sale watching' in September so you aren't scrambling to buy an overpriced finger hugger off a Buy and Sell site in December.
I hope these tips help you save loads of money this holiday season! And have an amazing Winter Break with your friends and family!

15 Magical Disney Inspired Bedrooms
I love Disney! I've watched pretty much every single Disney movie...some of them I've watched so many times, I can recite every word. I grew up in the 80's and 90's so I got to see 'The Little Mermaid', 'Aladdin', 'Beauty and the Beast', and 'The Lion King' when they came out in theaters. I got to visit Disney World many times as a child, and most recently visited in 2015. I love it! I feel like a kid again when I visit, and I'm so glad my children get to experience the magic too!
I've put together a list of my favorite Disney inspired bedrooms I've found. Some of these are absolutely amazing! I hope you enjoy!
1. A Frozen Dream
Source: Inside the Magic
Source: Inside the Magic
Frozen is the very first Disney movie my daughter ever saw, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. I love the music so much! This bedroom isn't super 'Disneyish'. It is a bit more sophisticated and can grow with your child.
2. Disney Planes
Source: Room for Joy

Planes is actually one Disney movie I haven't seen! My boys went to see it with their grandparents and I just never got around to watching it. This Bedroom looks amazing for a child obsessed with Planes. So many cool details!
3. Part of your World
Source: Room For Joy
I love this Little Mermaid room so much!! The boat on the ceiling makes you feel like you are really under the sea! The giant book is such a neat touch too. This may be my favorite out of all of these.
4. Beauty and the Beast

Source: Room for Joy
Beauty and the Beast is one of my all time favorites! I loved the new live action version even more! This room beautifully captures the feeling of the Beast's castle after Belle wins him over. And that Dresser!!
5. Tangled Tower
Source: Room for Joy
The movie Tangled is another one of our family faves. It's adorable and funny. This bedroom has the most amazing replica of Rupunzel's tower complete with her braid hanging down! Love it!
6. Disney Cars Garage
Source: Room for Joy
Source: Room for Joy
Cars! This was the very first movie my oldest saw in theaters! He was only 2 years old and he was enthralled! He was completely obsessed with everything Cars for the next 4 years. He collected every car and toy he could find. I'll admit I was a little sad when he outgrew it. He would have absolutely flipped for a room like this!
7. Cinderella's Palace
Source: Room for Joy
Source: Room for Joy
This bed is amazing! Can you imagine having this as a little girl? It would be like having your own mini condo! I love the little mice from Cinderella painted on the side of the bed and the birds flying around the vanity waiting to help her get ready...just like the movie!
8. Moana's Beach House
Source: Room for joy
Moana is my current fave! I'm a huge fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda...and The Rock! I love the strong message behind the movie. All my kids enjoyed it!
This beach/tropical island themed bedroom would be perfect for a Moana fan. I would have loved to have a tiny house above my bed when I was little.
9. An Epic Superhero Theme
Source: Room for Joy
Source: Room for Joy
Source: Room for Joy
This room is Epic!! I can't even believe all the detail that was put into it! The murals, the buildings, that ceiling!! I love it all. Do you have a superhero obsessed little guy who would flip over this room?
You can easily add a bit of epicness (is that a word?) to your child's room. Just use these awesome wall lights below and it will look like superheroes are smashing through your walls! (click on pics for product links)
10. Off to Neverland
Source: I like it!
What an amazing mural in this Peter Pan inspired room. And that hot air balloon light fixture is so whimsical and perfect for the space! I would switch out the bed and side table on the right for something a bit more classical, but the mural is fantastic. Some other 'must have' details for a Peter Pan themed room would be a teepee tent and a peter pan shadow wall decal (below).
11. A Pumpkin into a Carriage
Source: Houzz
Reminiscent of Cinderella's pumpkin carriage. This bed is so beautiful! Look at all the details. Any little girl would love this bed! Plus the mural on the wall and the faux pathway painted on the floor...I love everything about this room.
12. Al's Toy Barn
Source: StylishEve
Does anyone have a Toy Story fan? We took my youngest son to see Toy Story 3 as his very first movie (he was almost 3) and the movie TERRIFIED him! He was crying and wanted to leave because he thought everyone was going to die! Haha, fun memories. To this day he still refuses to watch it and he is almost 11.
You can easily add a bit of Toy Story to your child's room by using the wall decals below (that is if they aren't terrified...haha)
13. The Princess and the Frog
Source: Room for Joy
This mural is fantastic! It really captures the feel from the movie 'The Princess and the Frog'. I love how the rocks are 3 dimensional and that chandelier is perfect for any princess room! The vintage painted bed frame is pretty amazing too!
14. We Found Nemo
Source: Inside the Magic
Ocean themes are always popular for baby and kid's rooms. I love this 'Finding Nemo' take on the traditional under water theme. This mural is really well done and looks just like a scene from the movie. I love the coral lamps and the jellyfish-like ceiling light.
15. Planet Hoth
Source: Digital Trends
My boys and my husband are all HUGE Star Wars fans! The Empire Strikes Back is my oldest's favorite out off all the movies, and Planet Hoth was a major part of that episode. This room is super awesome, but I'm a little sad they didn't include a Wampa rug or a Tauntaun sleeping bag. That would have made the room perfect! I linked both of those items below, so you can add them to your own Star Wars themed room.
So those are my choices for best Disney inspired bedrooms! I hope you enjoyed them. I know there are so many more out there, but these ones were at another level. I would love to see some more Disney inspired bedrooms, so if you know of any, I would love it if you linked them in the comments!

5. Cactus Watercolors

This is the number one wallpaper I have seen popping up everywhere on Instagram and Pinterest. Succulents are so trendy right now, especially watercolor paintings of them, so this wallpaper is perfect. This would look great in a boho theme or a southwestern themed nursery.
You can find this wallpaper here: Project Nursery
6. Navy Rugby Stripe
Source: Style Me Pretty
Horizontal stripes look amazing in a nursery but they can be challenging to paint. These wallpaper tiles make the job super easy! Horizontal stripes would look great in a nautical nursery, a sports theme, and a preppy nursery.
You can find the wallpaper tiles here: Project Nursery
7. Bold and Bright Floral Pattern
Source: kmsalter design
I'm loving the rich colors in this nursery. The deep coral/red the turquoise and the navy are perfect together. And again the watercolor design is super trendy.

Buffalo Plaid is huge right now! This wallpaper would look amazing in a rustic cottage / woodland themed nursery.
You can find it here: Project Nursery
The best way to use wallpaper in your nursery or child's room, is to choose one accent wall and cover it . Paint the rest of the walls in a solid color. Too much of the pattern may be overwhelming.

10 Amazing Wood Panel/Ship-lap Nursery Ideas
Amazing samples of wood paneling and ship-lap in a nursery
One of the biggest trends in nurseries right now is wood paneling. Usually one large accent wall is chosen and covered with wooden planks. They can be stained or painted to match the nursery and can provide a number of looks from rustic to modern. It's a great way to add loads of personality to your nursery.
1. Industrial Blue, Grey and Brown
I love the industrial feel of this nursery. The rustic wood paneling in shades of blue, grey and brown, makes such a great focal wall. I'm obsessed with the hanging light and the industrial looking letters.
2. Chevron Panels Painted White
The white chevron/herringbone pattern of this wall would be a bit tricky to do, but the final look is amazing and totally worth it. The pattern is subtle, but still gives lots of visual interest to the room.
3. Dramatic Natural Wood Paneling
This room has so much drama! I love it. The wood was stained a natural color and combined with the marquee lights, large chandelier and velvet furniture, it is a gorgeous space. I absolutely love the big animal plush that give the room a sort of elegant safari feel.
4. Elegant Metallic Painted Panels
The metallic glaze used on this panel wall is an awesome variation on the theme. It has a luxe feel and gives lots of visual interest to the wall. I love this look with the white faux fur and metallic accents.
5. Rustic Barn Board Look
This wood wall pulls together a woodland themed nursery perfectly. It is stained in a dark walnut color and looks great with the pops of green and orange in the decor.
6. Modern Navy and Grey
The navy and grey tones in this wall give the panels a cleaner and more modern look. I love how much the wood grain stands out on this wall.
7. Bleached Wood Boho Chic
This wall has a sun bleached wood look to it that I love. It looks like it is a a very watered down white paint washed over natural wood. The flowers and deer head are the perfect touch.
8. Distressed Reclaimed Wood
This wall is very similar to number 5, but this one has a variation of stains. It gives it a more rustic and distressed look. Number 5 has all the boards in the same tone. This one has more of a 'reclaimed wood' look.
9. Weathered Grey Industrial Look
This wall may be my favorite. I love how rustic it is especially with the industrial look letters. In combination with the neutral furniture and accessories, it is perfect!
10. Whitewashed Neutral Woodland
This is an adorable neutral nursery and the white washing on the paneling is perfect for giving an interesting/rustic look but still keeping it neutral. This room would be adorable for a boy or a girl.
Here is a DIY video in case you are interested in creating this look in your child's nursery. You can see the stained version and watch to the end to see the whitewashed version.

Fun and happy girls bedroom in pink, red and turquoise with gold accents.
Yay! I'm so excited to do my very first room reveal at Alphadorable!
A few months ago, my daughter decided she had outgrown her toddler bedroom and needed a 'grown up' room. She's 6, so she's super grown up...ha.
We started by choosing the color pallet of turquoise and hot pink. Her 'must have' items included a gold a "unicorn head looking through her wall" (yes, she's convinced that that's a window on her wall and the unicorn is looking though...not that there is a deceased decapitated unicorn mounted to her wall ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
A lot of the items were actually remnants of her toddler room, but they actually worked pretty well in her new space. Keep reading to see all the details!
These super cute gold polka dots are wall decals. They are the 3" size. You can find them here: Polka dot wall decals . This bedding is a duvet cover set from JYSK .
This little doll is named Lily and has been my daughter's absolute favorite since she was a year old. She has gone everywhere with my daughter. She's been dragged through the mud and put through the wash. Her face was used for toddler teething (hence her beautiful, well preserved features..ha). The picture on the right shows her when we first received her. She was handmade by Honeylime designs (https://www.etsy.com/shop/honeylimedesigns). She did an amazing job and she has held up so well considering what she's been through! She even has my daughters name embroidered on her bum!
This cute white side table was purchased from JYSK. My daughter asked for a drawer and a cabinet and this one was perfect. I replaced the hardware with clear crystal knobs.
The gallery wall may be my favorite part of this room. The 3 turquoise, pink, green and red canvases are paintings I created a few years ago and the prints for each are available in my Print Shop.
The Unicorn head! This thing was almost the death of me...lol. It was the one thing my daughter 'NEEDED' for her room and...you can't buy them in Canada. Like, anywhere. In the US, there is Target and a million other places to purchase them, but I couldn't justify spending $40 shipping on a $18 unicorn head (and possibly paying more $$ in customs fees).
This one was made using a $5 emoji pillow! I found the cushion at Michael's and the whole thing ended up being about $10 and took half an hour. I will post a tutorial in the coming weeks.
This dresser was a $5 garage sale find! It is a vintage 1970's piece. I painted it turquoise and added the clear crystal hardware.
The reading nook was a super cute idea. My daughter loves it. It was just a mosquito net canopy I got from Jysk for about $12 and I just glued the flowers on using a glue gun. I would still like to add some fairy lights inside but I'm trying to find some white led ones.
I still need to paint a custom piggy bank for my daughter to match her room. This one she's had for a while and it's just a simple, boring polka dot one. I will create one just for her. My boy's each have one, so she needs one too.
And one last view of the gallery wall!
I had so much fun designing this room. It's so fun, bright and happy. My daughter loves it and seems to keep it cleaner than before (for now anyway). Most of her toy storage is in her closet, so I will make a future post about how I organized that area.
